Firestone Walker Double Jack

May 30, 2013

Overall Grade:A
Taste:A
Drinkability:A-
Aroma:B

High ABV + sweetness = quite good.

Starts really sweet and almost creamy. Alcohol becomes noticeable at mid-taste but there's still enough fruity sweetness that it's far from overwhleming. Finishes sweet, still, with hops coming out but again countered with sweetness.

This is one of the more drinkable high-flavor imperial IPAs I've run into. It has continued to grow on me, to the point where I subconciously crave it now. Behind the relatively rare Pliny the Elder, it may be my go-to Double IPA now.

Lots of hops but very well balanced. Herbal, grapefruit IPA that's loaded with alcohol but you don't taste it. That's what's marvelous.

Strong, sweet hop aroma.
