Port Brewing Old Viscosity Ale

September 20, 2013

Overall Grade:B+

Syrupy and sweet, it's not quite a stout or a porter. It hints at caramel, malt, toasted oats and finishes with a bitter chocolate flavor.

It's dry and condense, but still fairly drinkable, although I don't think I'd really need more than an 8-10oz pour.

What makes this beer above average is the effect of the barrel aging, which adds subtle oaky notes while mellowing out the other charactaristics, such as the syrupy sweetness and creamy, toasty notes.

The aroma is thick, chocolately and toasty.

A good beer for the price, best drank in small quantities.
